PHYSICAL QUANTITIES (scalar and vector)


In physics, we have studied a lot about physical quantities like work, time, displacement, force, etc. which can be broadly classified into two categories:   (1) scalar quantities

                                                                                                          (2) vector quantities


Physical quantities which have magnitude only. Example; mass, speed, volume, work, time, power, energy, etc. are SCALAR QUANTITIES.


Physical quantities which have magnitude and direction both, e.g. , displacement, velocity, acceleration, force, momentum, torque, etc.

A quantity will say to be a vector if it follows the triangle rule of addition of two vectors.

And also their a quantity called tensor quantities like; moment of inertia, pressure, refractive index,stress.
